Different kinds of people and organizations buy carbon credits:

Businesses: Some companies buy carbon credits to balance out the greenhouse gases they produce. It helps them meet the rules set by government, achieve their own environmental goals, or show they're committed to social responsibility. Some are part of systems like the European Union Emission Trading System where they need to have enough carbon credits to cover their emissions.

Governments: Governments at different levels might buy carbon credits to help them meet their own goals for reducing greenhouse gases, which are often set in international agreements like the Paris Agreement.

Individuals: Some people buy carbon credits to offset the greenhouse gases they produce in their daily lives, like from flying, driving or using energy at home.

Non-profit organizations: Some organizations that care about the environment buy carbon credits to support specific projects, promote sustainable development, or push for action on climate change.

Banks and investors: Some financial institutions buy and sell carbon credits as a kind of investment, or to protect against risks associated with climate change.

Brokers and intermediaries: Some businesses specialize in buying and selling carbon credits, acting as the middleman between the buyers and sellers.

The number of carbon credits bought can change depending on things like government regulations, the state of the market, and how aware the public is of climate change issues.
